Geology of Iowa For Teachers
04/30/2009
The Geology of Iowa for Teachers workshop is once again fully funded, and filled. The dates for this year's week-long event are June 21 through 26.
This program provides an opportuntiy for Iowa teachers to learn about the Geology of Iowa through an activity based, short course taught at the University of Northern Iowa and selected geological sites in Eastern Iowa. During the week they earn two hours of graduate credit.
All fees for this course, with the exception of a $60.00 registration fee (billed upon acceptance), are covered by the members of the Iowa Limestone Producers Association. This includes lunches and dinners, textooks and equipment, transportation in the field, instructional costs and housing (if needed).
During the week the particpants recieve practical experience in the field and in the laboratory which can then be used with their own students. The class members develope rock and mineral collections and obtain basic proficiency in their identification.
The class focuses on the significance of these items in understanding and interpreting the economic aspects of geology and the importance of geological resources to the citizens of Iowa.
